Double Cleansing: What it is and Why it is Important
When you use a makeup remover at the end of the day and cleanse with your regular cleanser after, sometimes you notice traces of makeup residue on your face cloth when drying your face. The Korean double-cleansing method is a way to ensure that all the gunk and build-up that was accumulated on your skin over the day is melted away entirely. It basically uses 2 types of cleansers: an oil-based cleanser and a water-based cleanser. In the double-cleansing method, you would use the oil cleanser first to remove all oil-based impurities, such as sunscreen, makeup residue, sebum etc. You would follow this with a water cleanser to remove water based impurities, such as dirt and sweat. Having said that, its important to use an eye and lip makeup remover for eye and lip makeup. Although you might see mascara and eyeliner disappearing after the application of your oil cleanser, there will always be some residue, and rubbing your eyes to remove the rest is terrible for elasticity and other early signs of aging. Instead, use an eye and lip makeup remover to target those areas and follow with an oil cleanser. Some people even use a makeup remover before an oil cleanser to ensure the removal of any residue.
Double cleansing not only helps with anti-aging, but also brightens the complexion. The double cleansing method allows the rest of the steps of your skincare routine, such as serums and moisturizers to be more effective due to easier penetration.
