When we think of a healthy complexion and radiant skin, the words hydrated, clear, and moisturized come to mind. The South Korean beauty industry has offered us such wonderful products to build customized routines. They allow us to address a variety of skin concerns, and have pushed us to truly discover radiance and all its glory. In recent years though, Western skincare has also broken boundaries and one such company that stands out is Deciem. It's brand 'The Ordinary' has proven what Korean products have been proving for a decade: beauty really doesn't have to break your bank or cost an arm and a leg. In today's post, we want to talk about marrying the two of them and bringing the best of both worlds together.
When we look at 'actives' in Korean skincare, besides Niacinamide, which is awesome for brightening, we don't see a lot of other ingredients. Cosrx has its AHA, BHA and PHA products but they're mild enough for people with sensitive skin, which means that the concentration isn't really that high. Why is that you ask? From what we understand, there basically just isn't a market for it in South Korea. People aren't looking for anything that has the potential to irritate their skin, and actives can do that. That shifted our attention to Western skincare where products with high concentrations of actives are abundant. The most common actives are acids like AHAs, BHAs and PHAs and antioxidants, such as Vitamin C and Vitamin A (retinol or tretinoin). At CCD, we decided to place an order with The Ordinary and Niod and bring in a few of their products to test and see how they work alongside our beloved K-Beauty regimes. For the past 10 days, this is what our PM routine looks like: Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Oil, Sulwhasoo Snowise EX Cleansing Foam, The Buffet by the Ordinary, Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion by the Ordinary, Missha Time Revolution FTE, Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid Toner, Cosrx Snail goo, and the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Light Cream. (sometimes we switch over to the Scinic Honey Ampoule for the moisturizer). The result? We LOVE it. We actually noticed smoother skin after the very first use despite the slight purging. Having said that, we have to mention that we use the retinoid every other night since it is quite drying but lucky for us, our awesome Korean products have helped tremendously with the tightness and dryness. We will be writing an updated post after another 2 weeks of using the products but we have to say how much we love it once again. The balance is what makes it remarkable. It's like a push-and-pull regime where the retinoid and AHAs can dry you out but Korean products with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial properties soothe, calm and hydrate.
Conclusion: WE.LOVE. IT.
