You know that feeling you get after cleansing where your skin feels squeaky clean? You're all pumped and ready for bed because of it? Sorry to break it to you like this, but thats awful. That squeaky clean feeling isn't good for your skin at all. In fact, thats your skin telling you that the product you just used stripped it of its natural oils. This usually happens if the pH level in your cleanser is too high. But don't fret! Until you find the right cleanser for your skin type (which by the way, you can do immediately by clicking here), we're here to talk about another star product in your routine which helps bring down the pH level of your skin and helps for the entire routine to work even better!

Toners are often overlooked by a lot of people but we're here to change that. They have several benefits other that the pH level adjustment we just talked about, and we've sworn to help you find the right one for your skin type.

Dry Skin

If your skin feels tight for most of the day, looks dull and dehydrated, and lacks luster, you want to make sure you look for a toner, with hydrating and moisturizing ingredients. Something which will help improve the moisture barrier for your skin and help you stay hydrated for longer. Here are our recommendations:

  • Moistfull Collagen Facial Toner by Etude House - this baby has Baobab water along with collagen, which are both fantastic for firming and elasticity. Etude House claims that the toner will provide moisture and leave your skin feeling like jelly. The water droplets are soft to the skin yet firm in absorption. It gives the skin a bouncy jelly feel while keeping it hydrated.
  • Ceramidin Liquid by Dr. Jart - this toner could be one of our favorite products for dry skin. It is so rich that it could often be confused with a serum! Ceramides nourish the skin from within and this bad boy is packed with them.

Oily Skin

People with oily skin need products, which will control and balance oil production through hydration. Oily skin doesn't need harsh products to strip it's natural oils but light layers of hydration. Once you strip the skin of its natural oils, it goes into preservation mode and begins to product even more oil to make up for what's lost. Here are our recommendations:

  • Supple Preparation Facial Toner by Klairs - this toner contains various ingredients Lipidure and Beta-Glucan which provide deep hydration while simultaneously balancing pH levels.
  • AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner by Cosrx - this toner's advanced formulation reduces the appearance of whiteheads, blackheads, and blemishes while clearing pores. The toner controls excess oil and sebum and is infused with acne-fighting acids. Its great for nourishment and hydration.

Combination Skin

Combination skin types are often tricky because its difficult to treat different parts of your face separately. Here are our recommendations for products, which will hydrate and deeply nourish the rest of your face while controlling oil production in your T-Zone, keeping it clear of blackheads, enlarged pores and excess sebum:

  • Moisture Ceramide Skin Softener by Mamonde - this amazing product will improve your skin's ability to retain water, which in turn keeps you hydrated for longer. It has a  runny jelly-like texture, which absorbs quickly and doesn't leave you with any oily residue. Its packed with ceramides, which are great for nourishment. (this is one of our favorite products here at Chok Chok!)
  • 90% Toner Camomile by Mizon - this product also has hyaluronic acid and Beta-Glucan but another star ingredient is Trehalose, which reinforces the skin's ability to retain moisture. It's non-sticky in texture and balances both oily and dry skin.

Sensitive Skin

You need some special treatment with that sensitive skin! Look for more pure ingredient lists. Here is what we recommend:

  • Supple Preparation Facial Toner by Klairs - yep! This toner comes in twice on our list! That's just how much we love it. One of the star ingredients in this product is Centella Asiatica extract, which helps with redness, irritation and sensitivity.
  • Tea Tree 70 Mist Toner by Leejiham - alcohol-free? Check. Mineral Oil-free? Check. Pure ingredients list? Check. It can't get better than this!! Oh wait it can: Tea Tree - an amazing ingredient for acne, inflammation and irritation!
  • Intensive Skin Barrier  Toner by Mizon - we all know and love hyaluronic acid for its intensely hydrating properties and this toner has exactly that!

Have you tried any of these? Let us know below in our comments if you have!
